Closing Ceremony

webb2011 World Amateur Chess Championship's closing ceremony ended with memorable moments in Kemer - Antalya. Askin Keles, the board member of Turkish Chess Federation, made his speech before award ceremony. In his speech Keles noted: "From the name of Turkish Chess Federation and FIDE, we would like to thank you for your participation and hope to see you again in another organizations in our country". He also presented the appreciation plaquette to the chief arbiter Mr. Guran Unal for the memory of the championship. The board member of Turkish Chess Federation, Ahmet Arda Kilic presented women awards. Dr. Olgun Kulac, board member of Turkish Chess Federation, awarded the players in general category with cups, medals and checks. The prize fund of championship was 10.000 € and the winner of the tournament received 2000 €.

2011 World Amateur Chess Championship's last round is played in the morning. 14 year old Sumiya Bilguun from Mongolia defeated his Turkish opponent Ali Bulent Özveren and became the champion with 7.5 points. Fatma Koc Ozturk: When did you start playing chess?

Timur Ozdemir: I started playing chess in the tournaments when I was 8 years old. I learned chess in elementary school from Veli Ozan Cakir. We had very good team consisted of talented Turkish players like Melodi Dincel, Ilker Akkartal in that period. After that I worked with Ismet Arvit, he is one of the best arbiters and trainers in Turkey. I was participating in all Turkish Youth Championships between the age 10 to 16. I had to make a break before the university exams, so I could not play in the youth championship under 18 category. Now, I play chess any time I can.

Round Eight

IMG_48462011 World Amateur Chess Championship's eighth round has been completed around 21.15 pm. Timur Ozdemir did not lose any game until he was defeated by another Turkish player Ali Bulent Ozveren before the final round. Ozdemir is sharing the first place with Sumiya Bilguun from Mongolia and Ali Bulent Ozveren. All of them have 6,5 points after eight games. Seventh Round

web72011 World Amateur Chess Championship's seventh round completed with tough struggles again. The game between Timur Ozdemir and Ibrahim Sevin was drawn in 47 moves. After knight sacrifice, Sevin got two pawns and activity which lead to interesting play. As a result of this game, Timur Ozdemir is still leading in the championship with 6,5 points, while Ibrahim Sevin is on the second place with 6 points. Sumiya Bilguun from Mongolia won against his Indian friend and shares the third place together with Dager Alvarez and Bulent Ali Ozveren with 5.5 points.
